Gary Stakem
I am a Principal in LCP’s Insurance Consulting practice, based in Ireland. I help insurers and reinsurers address complex actuarial, risk management and regulatory challenges, with a particular focus on practical solutions that work for the business as well as meeting regulatory expectations.
I have extensive experience in the Irish insurance market across consulting and industry roles. I have worked with a wide range of organisations, including domestic insurers, international insurance and reinsurance groups, specialty insurers and captives.
My experience covers reserving, capital, risk management, regulatory compliance and assurance. I have held senior regulated roles as both Head of Actuarial Function and Chief Risk Officer, and have acted as an independent Reviewing Actuary. This gives me a strong understanding of the responsibilities placed on actuarial and risk functions, as well as the challenges of communicating complex issues clearly to boards and senior management.
I advise clients on areas including Solvency II, actuarial function effectiveness, ORSA, technical provisions, governance, internal audit and regulatory change. I am particularly interested in helping actuarial and risk functions become more effective and commercially relevant.
Clients value my ability to combine technical actuarial expertise with a pragmatic understanding of governance, regulation and how insurance businesses operate. I aim to make complex issues understandable, focus attention on what matters most and provide advice that can be implemented in practice.
I am a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary and a Licentiate of the Compliance Institute.
