This page brings together how we celebrate Pride across LCP: with our colleagues, our clients, and our community. From joyful events to everyday actions, Pride is woven into our culture year-round.

I love Pride - the rainbow flags everywhere make me smile and feel safer no matter the depth of thought behind their display.

As co-chair of LCP's LGBTQ+ Network I also feel a responsibility to make LGBTQ+ people feel safe and at home at LCP year round. I'd like to think we're pretty good at that.

This page is here to capture what Pride means to all of us at LCP. We celebrate it internally, with our clients and contacts, and now with the world through this page.

Coming out isn't a one time event

It's a decision I make almost every day, whenever I meet someone new. The first time I came out was the hardest - but I quickly learnt that it wasn't the end. Every introduction, every conversation, holds that familiar question: "Should I say it or let them assume I have a girlfriend? How will they react?"
I am proud and celebrate my queerness

... often loudly, because it needs to be celebrated. There are so many queer people who are afraid to come out and I want them to know that life doesn’t end when you realise you are queer, and that life is beautiful and full of joy.
I didn't have a particularly big or dramatic coming-out event

... when I was growing up. In fact, I came out to my mum completely by accident over a family dinner as I didn't realise she didn't know!
I was ten the first time I felt I was different

By twelve I knew why. It took me another three years to find the courage to say it. My sense of self shattered and reformed; the woman I thought I was becoming had vanished. It was both terrifying and exhilarating, as most things are at that age. As a young teenager, I perched on the end of my parent's bed and blurted "I think I like girls." They laughed - they already knew.
Coming out is something that happens more often than you expect

I come out every time I meet someone new and mention my wife. But when asked about my coming out story, I always think about when my parents found out I was gay.
The first person I came out to was my friend Steph

I think I had expected to feel some sort of sense of relief or freedom afterwards. Maybe even euphoria. The reality was quite different. It’s quite scary trusting someone with something you’ve hidden out of fear, and that sense of threat takes time to subside. But it did subside, over time.
‘Coming out’ has taken on a different meaning at each stage of my life

From exploring and defining what identity means to me, to sharing with family and friends. Coming out at a new job, in new relationships, and getting used to the implications of wearing a wedding ring and the unanticipated ‘coming out’ moments it has created. It is a journey fraught with awkward corrections also moments of unexpected connection and understanding. Some experiences have been challenging, others unexpectedly heartwarming—but all of them have been mine.
