Europe's electrification challenge: What is the progress and outlook in the household sector?

The latest energy crisis brings a new urgency to electrification – through which Europe can have an increased dependence on local, renewable energy. The EU’s 2026 Electrification Action Plan is designed to accelerate cost-effective electrification.

But how quickly is electrification happening in households across Europe? Which countries are making rapid progress, and where is electrification stalling?

Understanding the progress of electrification in households is challenging. Housing stock differs widely between countries, with different building types, technologies, energy pricing and policy environments, making it difficult to compare progress across markets.

To bring greater transparency to this important sector, LCP Delta has developed a new Household Electrification Index. The index takes a data led approach to assessing electrification across major European countries, enabling consistent comparisons between markets and identifying where additional action is required.

During this webinar, we will discuss:

  • LCP Delta's Household Electrification Index and electrification in households across major European countries since 2020 and forecast out to 2030.
  • Where rapid progress is being made and where progress is slower, and why.
  • How the current rate of electrification compares to that required to meet decarbonisation goals.
  • Actions which can accelerate cost-effective electrification in European homes.
