Social VPP show and tell: Can flexibility deliver a fairer energy transition?

Exploring how community-led flexibility can lower bills, support vulnerable households and strengthen the grid
Can energy flexibility work for everyone, not just those who can afford it?
The Social Virtual Power Plant (Social VPP) is an Ofgem SIF Discovery project, led by LCP Delta and the Centre for Energy Equality on behalf of Northern Powergrid. It tests a new approach that combines community‑led investment with smart flexibility to bring the benefits of the energy transition to vulnerable and fuel‑poor households.
By aggregating household batteries and demand response, the project aims to lower energy bills, reduce carbon emissions and ease pressure on the grid. Crucially, it also explores how these benefits can be delivered more fairly, with revenues reinvested back into communities.
In this 30-minute webinar, we will share the key findings from the discovery phase, including what it takes to make this model technically, financially and socially viable, and what comes next.
What you’ll learn
- How a Social VPP model could expand access to energy flexibility.
- The role of community-led approaches in delivering inclusive energy solutions.
- Early insights on technical and commercial feasibility.
- What this means for networks, policymakers and market participants.
Who should attend
This webinar is designed for stakeholders across the energy system, including networks, suppliers, policymakers and those focused on consumer outcomes and the energy transition.
