James Hughes

I am a partner in LCP's actuarial team, providing focused, practical advice to help my clients run their pension schemes efficiently. I am a Scheme Actuary, but also support a number of employers on their pension arrangements.

My clients are a very diverse mix, ranging from a local brewery to a global technology company.

I believe the most important part of my job is making sure that my clients understand and can act on the advice I give them. My main focus is on communicating in a clear and straightforward way, leading to greater understanding of difficult concepts and more effective decision-making. I enjoy building strong relationships with my clients, and truly being part of their team.

Key recent projects include:

• helping my clients put in place frameworks for the long-term de-risking of their schemes, balancing member security and company contribution demands;
• supporting trustees\employers in robust funding negotiations, and working in an open and constructive way to find mutually agreeable solutions; and
• providing advice to trustees in relation to liability management proposals put forward by sponsoring employers.

In my spare time I am a keen cyclist and runner, and also enjoy getting along to various sporting events.
