Sharing ideas, testing perspectives and shaping decisions
Whether you joined us on the day or couldn’t make it, we’re pleased to share some of the highlights from LCP’s annual DB pensions conference.
The DB Exchange brought together trustees, sponsors, in house teams and industry experts to explore the shared questions facing schemes today – from decision-making in uncertainty and changing governance to endgame choices, implementation and member outcomes.
Across the day, we challenged assumptions, shared practical ideas and explored the importance of collaboration, constructive challenge and keeping members at the centre of decisions.
We hope you enjoyed the conversations and left with useful insights and plenty to think about.
Systemic risks shaping the world around pensions
Pension schemes don’t operate in isolation. They are part of interconnected systems that are constantly changing, creating both risks and opportunities.
In case you missed these on the day, hear experts from across LCP share their perspectives on some of the systems shaping the world around us, and what these changes could mean for pension schemes and their members.

In the news
The conference sparked wider debate around the future of DB endgames, including whether schemes pursuing run-on should rethink traditional approaches to de-risking.
This is what our delegates thought:
"Better than chocolate"
"Absolutely fantastic"
"Relevant and well presented with a good and non-repetitive mix of DB topics"
"Brilliant keynote, engaging, relevant and energic to end the day"
"Brilliantly provocative and practical"
"A fabulously paced day"
"A real treat to see Kevin Fong speak"
"Right energy, length and interesting content"
What does successful run-on strategy look like in practice?
Our speakers Jonathan Wolff and Jacob Shah explored whether it really is time to “stop de-risking” – and how a flexible approach to covenant can give trustees greater confidence to pursue higher-growth investment strategies.
In this blog, Jonathan builds on that discussion, introducing the STAR covenant framework: a practical way to think about the role of covenant in a run-on and surplus sharing strategy, from establishing the right starting position to planning for downside risks, setting appropriate funding buffers and maintaining regular monitoring.
